How to deal?
In the card game hearts, the cards are dealt clockwise and faced down.
- 3 players receive 17 cards each and two of diamonds is removed.
- 4 players receive 13 cards each.
- 5 players receive 10 cards each and two of clubs and diamonds are removed.
The players will also have to determine a certain point. If a player scores this determined point, then the player having lowest scores wins the game.
How to Play a Game?
- Once the cards are dealt, the player having two of clubs starts the game. In case 2 of clubs are removed, then you can lead with 3 of clubs.
- All players have to follow the suit if possible. In case of hearts, there is no trump suit. The highest card played of the leading suit wins, and the winner can begin the next trick.
- In case a player is unable to follow suit they can throw any other card in their hand. This way one can throw away any high cards and lower their score to win.
- However, here comes one exception. No player can throw hearts and the queen of spades in the first trick. Anyone can throw the two in any trick after the first one provided that the player is void the suit which is being led.
Note that until one of the two – a heart or the queen of spades has been played, the players cannot lead with a heart. But, it is possible for the the queen of spades to lead at any point in the game.
How to Score in Hearts?
As mentioned above, in card game hearts, one has to win the least number of points and hence the least amount of tricks, or not winning tricks having hearts or the queen of spades can also be a great strategy.
When a game round ends, the players add the number of hearts and queen of spades won by them and add this to their overall score. Scoring less will make you win the game!
