- The cards in Newmarket game are played in sequence. For example, if a player plays 6 of spades, the player who has a 7 of spades goes next.
- The player selects the lowest card from their hand and plays it faced up in front of the other players. It is required that the player says the suit as well as the rank of the card out loud.

- The game continues in the similar fashion until the sequence can no longer be continued. This stage is called ‘Stopped’.
- There can be 2 reasons to stop a sequence – One, the card required to continue the sequence could be in dummy hand. Or two, An ace card can also act as a stop. If an ace is played, the sequence ends. In such case, the person who played the last card gets to play once again. They get to choose the lowest card from their suit and play continues until any one of the player gets rid of all their cards.
What are Horses?
If a player plays a card that is same as the horses, they win the chips they bet on that horse at the beginning of the game. If the chips were not won in a round, they are automatically passed to the next round.
