How to Deal
A 1000 game is played ideally with 3 players but in case there are 4 players, one player has to sit out on every hand. This can be alternated between the players. In 1000 game, a deck of 24 cards is used. This is done by taking just 6 cards from every suit.
The dealer is chosen using any method. The players can either make the youngest or the eldest person the dealer or simply cut the deck and make the dealer who has the highest or lowest ranking card. The deal proceeds to the left or in a clockwise manner. The bidding and the game also move in the same way.
The dealer deals seven cards one at a time to the players. All players get 7 cards in their hand. Then, 3 cards are dealt faced down to the center of the table. The cards are named as Prikup.
The dealer deals cards to the prikup in the first 3 rounds of the deal. The cards are dealt one at a time in between the second and third cards dealt in the round.
Bidding
Bid is a numerical estimation of the number of points a player thinks they can win in that round. The least bid a player can make is 100 and it increases in the multiples of 5, like – 105, 110, 115, and so on.
The bidding starts with the player sitting left to the dealer and then proceeds clockwise. Every bid has to exceed the one before it. In case a player passes their bid, they are not allowed to bid again.
The bidding is continued until all the players except one has passed. That player who passed the bid becomes the declarer. As points in the deck are 120 in all, the players cannot bet over 120. And to bet 120, they must have a pair of King and Queen.
Exchange
The declarer exposes 3 prikup cards at the center of the table and takes them in his hand. Then he discards 2 unwanted cards and one to each opponent. The 3 players must have 8 cards in all.
The declarer is allowed to raise their bid in the multiples of 5 or simply stay. Once the exchange is done and if there is an unlucky player who has four nines in their hand, they can abandon that hand and get no score. Then the cards are shuffled and dealt again.
How to Play
The declarer leads the first trick. The rest of the tricks are led by the winner of the last trick. In the beginning, there are no trumps. If a player has a marriage i.e., a pair of King and Queen, then they can declare this and lead with either of the cards in the next trick.
The suit of that pair will be the trump suit till another marriage happens. But note that players can declare the marriage only after winning the trick and having both the cards in hand.
In a trick it is required that players follow the suit as long as it is possible. In case a player is not able to follow a suit, or play a trump card, then they can play any other card. The highest-ranking trump card wins the tricks. But if there is no trump card, then the card of the highest ranking can be used. The tricks won are kept in a side for scoring.
Scoring
In all, there are 120 points in the deck. The game involves things like Marriage. This takes place when a player has the King as well as the Queen. Given below are the points rewarded for a marriage according to the suits –
· King & Queen of Hearts = 100 points
· King & Queen of Diamonds = 80 points
· King & Queen of Clubs = 60 points
· King & Queen of Spades = 40 points
Players calculate their scores by adding up value of cards that are won in the tricks along with any King-Queen pairs according to the values mentioned above.
The ranks of the rest of the cards are as below –
· Ace = 11 points
· Ten = 10 points
· King = 4 points
· Queen = 3 points
· Jack = 2 points
· Nine = 0 points
All the players start with zero points and try to be the first reach 1000 points. The points are added up and rounded to the closest multiple of 5. Then these are added to the total score of the player.
When a declarer is able to score at least the bid amount, their bid is added to their total score. In case they fail in collecting the bid amount, their bid is reduced from their total score.
