How to Deal
The deck of cards used in Hearts game is slightly different from general cards game.
From the deck of 52 cards remove – 3, 5, 7, 9, J and K. After removing all of these cards, you are left with 28 cards. This deck of 28 cards will be used to play 2 player hearts game.
One card has to be dealt to the side. This card is kept aside as a dead card. Now deal 13 cards to each player. One card will still be left. This card is also a dead card.
How to Play
The first player is the one who has 2 of clubs. But they are required to lay that card. In case neither of the player has a two of clubs, then the player who has a four of clubs will go first.
Bit again if none of them have both the two and four of clubs, then the player having a six of clubs goes first.
After the first player plays, the second player has to follow the suit if possible. Which means that, since the first player played a club, the second player will have to play a card from the club suit too.
In case the second player does not have a club, then they can play any other card they wish to.
The player who plays the highest card in the led suit or the highest heart will take the trick.
Just note that until and unless the suit is broken, hearts cannot be played in the game. The heart cards are broken only when a player fails to follow the suit or has only spades left in hand.
The player who takes the trick then leads. Till all the 13 cards are played, the game continues in the same way.
Scoring in 2 Player Hearts game
Queen of Spades – The Queen of Spades is a special card in 2 player hearts. It gives the player 13 points. This queen can be played at any point in the game.
Players get 1 point for each queen they take. For the queen of spades, they get 13 points.
Shooting the Moon – When a player takes all the queens in the game including the Queen of Spades, then it is called Shooting the Moon.
Since the game is about having the least points, the opponent of the player who shoots the moon gets 20 points and the player who shoots the moon gets 0 points.
The Hearts and the Queen of Spades can be buried in the dead card pile. In such a situation, shooting the moon means the player has taken all the point cards in the game.
Who wins 2 Player Hearts?
The player who first reaches 100 points loses the game and the opponent wins.
In case both the players reach 100 points at the same time, they will have to play until the tie is broken.
