Guide to Playing Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em is one of the most common variations in poker. The game is played in a number of different brands across the globe (WSOP, WPT, EPT).

Let’s not deceive you by the simplicity of the game. The number of games available is so large that the game can be very complicated when it comes to playing at a high level.

When you first play the game, you will face some of the fundamental rules listed below. Every player is first dealt two hole cards in Texas to make the best five-card hand overall.

Play moves around the table in the clock direction, starting with the dealer’s left side action. Generally, a small blind and a large blind area required to position the first two players on the right of the press.

There are different streets where activity occurs: preflop, flop, turn and water.

How Many People Can Play Poker?

Poker is played by six players or nine players. Two players play ‘Heads up’ between them.

This can be achieved in two situations. One example would be when a tournament or a regular poker game is over and the last two players will stand (or sit).

The other way to play heads up is by entering a heads-up poker game in which only two players play one by one.

What Are Blinds?

In order to get the action started, you need to put two forced bets, known as the blinds, in the pot in order to get some action.

The ‘small blinds’ and ‘large blinds’ are the two styles of blinds. Big blinds are the number of small blinds often double.

The player on the left of the dealer is placing the little blind on the table, the player on the left is putting the big blind on the table. The next player is the first to decide whether or not they want to join the bet.

In cash games, these blinds always remain the same and if you want to have greater or lower blinds, you have to switch to another table.

The blinds start as very little bets in the tournaments and increase over time (typically 15/20 minutes) depending on the body that hosts the tournament.

For example, blinds usually start at 25/50 from a starting stack of 2,000 chips. When the time is over, blinds rise to 50/100. Every 15/20 minutes, blinds will continue to grow until the end of the tournament.

Order of Action

The person to the left of the big blind has to decide if they want to play their hand when the blinds are positioned. Players can choose from 3 choices. They could:

Fold – When the player does not want to join the hand and gives up the cards

They call – it just means the big blind as a symbol of engagement in the hand

Raise – This involves rising the bet to at least twice the large blind and is a clear sign that the hand is high. For example, if the blinds are set to 25/50, an increase of at least 100 will double the big blind.

Each player, including the players who play, raise over the blinds.
